CHRONOLITH by DAAA x RECOBEL by HALMANN VELLA is an architectural installation showcasing reconstituted stone, framing time, solar movement, and lived human interaction.
The 2026 Interni theme, "Materiae," focuses on the role of materials in contemporary design. It is a multidisciplinary exploration of how materials, ideas, and disciplines intertwine to generate sustainable, creative, and high-impact design solutions.
Within this context, Chronolith positions reconstituted stone as a forward-thinking material, circular and low-impact, and technically advanced, embodying a new material intelligence that speaks across disciplines. Here, sustainability is not explained; it is experienced through form, scale, texture, and time.
Chronolith is an pavilion that explores the slow formation of matter, the shaping of architecture, and the fleeting presence of human life. Constructed from reconstituted limestone blocks, the structure draws attention to a material born over time, compressed sediment, memory, and pressure, now momentarily reassembled as architecture.
The pavilion's design is inscribed as a dial. At its centre stands a pole, whose shadow moves across the interior throughout the day. Time here is not counted but observed. Light becomes a measuring instrument; shadow, a quiet narrator. As the sun shifts, the architecture changes, not through movement, but through perception.
Visitors are enveloped by stone. They enter the thickness of the material, occupying a space that oscillates between shelter and instrument. The walls receive light and shadow as a surface receives touch. Architecture becomes both container and register, recording the passage of time through subtle, continuous transformation.
Chronolith proposes architecture as a mediator between geological time and human time. It invites awareness rather than spectacle, slowness rather than consumption. In an era defined by acceleration and distraction, the pavilion asks a quieter question: how does architecture teach us to notice.
Here, stone measures time.
Light marks duration.
And human presence leaves no trace.
Chronolith marks an important milestone for both DAAA Haus and RECOBEL elevating it from manufacturer to material innovator, and positioning the brand alongside the most influential voices shaping the future of architecture and design. Special thanks goes to our partners Altern Lighting - Lighting Design Partner, Made Studio - Structural Engineer and Jet Freight - Logistic Partner.

"I would like to sincerely thank our team, partners, and sponsors for their commitment and belief in this unique, entirely Maltese installation. Chronolith is more than a pavilion - it is a reflection on time, matter, and presence. Through reconstituted stone, we explore how architecture can frame the movement of light and the quiet passage of life within it. It is a project about slowness, about observation, about reconnecting with material and meaning. What we have created together is not just an installation, but a shared statement - one that places Maltese craft and innovation confidently on the international stage."
